Telecom Equipment Manufacturing Association has supported TRAI’s initiative of blocking unwanted annoying calls and messages from unregistered telemarketers.
Mobile penetration in India is increasing day by day, so TEMA has asked the telecom regulator to freeze on UCC for wanted and unwanted customers completely.
Because the government has announced the lockdown period to combat the COVID-19, the usage of smartphones increased, which further increased the probabilities of cybercrimes and phishing attacks. TEMA has addressed all the telemarketers, telecom service providers, and internet service providers to figure together and check the pesky calls and messages problem faced by many mobile users in India.
Technology and Regulations can check annoying Calls and Messages
Unsolicited Commercial Communication (UCC) has become one of the main issues in every country which has high mobile users, especially like India. Recently, PAYTM urged the supreme court to hunt relief from annoying calls, messages, and phishing attempts. High court asked TRAI to submit the action taken report on registration on registration of telemarketers and other related issues.
TEMA’s Chairman Shri. Ravi Sharma stated that Indian mobile users must be free from annoying calls and messages. New technologies would help the telecom regulator to check annoying/fraud calls and messages from unwanted and unregistered telemarketers.
TRAI has already issued a don’t Call Registry Policy under which telecom service providers need to make sure that subscribers who have registered themselves for not receiving unwanted calls and messages shouldn’t get them from unregistered telemarketers.
Telcos and Trai are Using Blockchain Technology
TRAI has been taking all the measures to check the annoying calls and messages from unregistered telemarketers. Recently, the telecom regulator shared an inventory of all the registered telemarketers and their SMS codes for sending commercial communication. Also, the telecom regulator is functioning on blockchain technology to check pesky calls and messages. To make sure that, TRAI and telecom service providers have adopted DLT or blockchain to make sure regulatory compliance while allowing innovation within the market.
